Directions· Comparison Questions

In the following problems there are two values, one in column A and the other in column B, followed by four answers. Choose the right answer.

There is only ONE correct answer to each question.

If the price of 3 pens and one pencil is 7 Riyals, and the price of one notebook and 3 pens is 10 Riyals, compare: Column A — the price of a pencil; Column B — the price of a notebook.

  1. The value in column A is greater.
  2. The value in column B is greater.
  3. The two values are equal.
  4. The information provided is not sufficient to decide.
Show answer

Correct answer: B. The value in column B is greater.

Why

Both equations share "3 pens": notebook − pencil = 10 − 7 = 3, so the notebook costs 3 Riyals more than the pencil — column B is greater.
