These questions are ETEC/Qiyas's own officially published trial-exam questions, shown here with attribution. They are not sold and are not part of Smart Advanced Network for Education, Development & Achievement's original question bank.
Directions

Read the following questions. Choose the right answer.

There is only ONE correct answer to each question.

Which of the following reactions will occur?

  1. Cl₂ + 2HF → 2HCl + F₂
  2. I₂ + 2HCl → 2HI + Cl₂
  3. Br₂ + 2HCl → 2HBr + Cl₂
  4. Cl₂ + 2HBr → 2HCl + Br₂
Show answer

Correct answer: D. Cl₂ + 2HBr → 2HCl + Br₂

Why

Reactivity of halogens decreases down the group (F>Cl>Br>I), so a more reactive halogen (Cl₂) can displace a less reactive one (Br) from its compound — Cl₂ + 2HBr → Br₂ + 2HCl occurs.
